Our Founder, Paul Onsager

As a husband, father, and business owner, I understand many of the concerns and perspectives of my estate planning and business clients.  Onsager Law Office exists first and foremost to understand the needs and goals of its clients, and then to appy my professional experience and background to best advance my clients’ individual goals in light of the law.

My clients benefit from my years of private practice experience in the areas of estate planning (wills and trusts), probate, buying and selling of small business interests, small business law, contracts, and intellectual property (trademarks, trade secrets and copyrights).  They also benefit from my 16 years of experience as a nonpartisan fiscal and policy analyst for the Wisconsin legislature, in which I provided advice on such matters as the restructuring of state goverment, group healthcare benefits, retirement benefits, employment relations, and ethics.  I believe that my experience uniquely positions me to provide analysis of state and federal law, including the related financial, organizational, relationship, and ethical considerations that so often arise in legal matters.  I believe that my experience also uniquely positions me to guide clients through law changes and to assist them in working with government agencies.

After graduating in 1987 from Brookfield Central High School in the Milwaukee area, I attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison.  In 1991, I graduated with honors with a bachelor of arts in economics and history.  In 1995, I graduated cum laude from the University of Minnesota Law School.  I am an active, licensed member of the State Bar of Wisconsin.  I am also admitted to practice law before the federal district courts of the Eastern District and Western District in Wisconsin.  In addition, the practice is a member of the Fitchburg and Middleton Chambers of Commerce.

In my free time you will likely find me exploring the outdoors with my family.  However, my family insists that I do beekeeping alone.
